This style of dance is a fusion of multiple styles of dance. Contemporary dance uses the strong legwork of ballet, the torso movement of modern, contract and release, floor work, fall and recovery, and improvisations. It is unpredictable in rhythm, direction, and speed of movement. Contemporary has three progressive levels.
Contemporary 1: This style of dance explores the basic concepts of contemporary dance. It requires a minimum of 5 years of dance exploration and experience in other styles of dance. Leveling is required.
Contemporary 2: This is an intermediate level class. It explores torso movement, contract and release, floor work, fall and recovery, and the basics of improvisations. It is for dancers that have achieved a minimum of level 3 ballet and jazz. Leveling is required.
Contemporary 3: This is an advanced level class. It requires knowledge of level 4 ballet and jazz, as well as, intermediate level contemporary skills. This class focuses on advanced contemporary movement and choreography. Must be highly skilled in improvisations. Leveling is required.
